I know nothing about Deans, but I spent years in the same ward with Andrea Bryson… She has married, has a family and subsequently a new last name (which I won't post because I didn't ask her if it was ok). Andrea lived in Chico for much of her young life and funny as it sounds I used to do the family's landscaping. She is a fantastic singer, and a very gracious person. I have no doubt that if you personally do contact her she would be happy to hear from you.

You're still registered to vote in CT? You should change that, municipal elections are some of the most important as all politics is local.

As to the point raised. The constitution also doesn't explicitly guarantee the gov't provide you or your family potable drinking water, but if all of sudden the gov't stopped providing that service, you'd be upset. Article I, section 8 of the Constitution speaks of the "general welfare" clause. Some see healthcare as general welfare, some see it as potable drinking water, some see it as none of the above.

This speech is fascinating for a number of reasons. First, all of the core messages are as applicable today as they were when this was recorded. Mr. Reagan's focus on principles and not issues makes this message timeless.

Second, it was interesting to review the background behind this slice of history. He is clearly campaigning for Barry Goldwater. Mr. Goldwater subsequently lost this election by a landslide. The Republicans lost ground during this campaign. Based upon the immediate outcome of this event, it would have been hard to believe that Mr. Reagan would go on to implement the ideals he discusses in such a profound way that it shaped the world that we all live in today.

This speech and your efforts in the 9/12 projects give me hope that maybe more Americans share my core values than I realize. I hope that these efforts to mobilize core values will result in another leader like Mr. Reagan.
